“Meditation is the greatest purification.” -Yogi Bhajan

Hi High Vibe Yogis,

Most of you guys have either heard about meditation or are practicing it, but if you have or haven’t, I am going to break down what the F it really is and why it’s so powerful! I hope that explaining more about meditation will help give you some extra clarity and reasons to try it or help you to strengthen your practice.

Meditation is like taking a mental shower. It clears out your mind so thoughts don’t start to pile up and overflow into your conscious mind (which is where creativity and ideas happen)! If you have tons thoughts and past experiences in your unconscious mind that you never let go of you are essentially operating from an unconscious mindset 95-99% of the time! If that sounds dangerous, it is! That means you are not really aware of your actions and you will not be able to access new or creative energy easily.

If you are experiencing any of the following issues, meditation will help you in so many ways! Does your mind race with thoughts over and over again, have trouble focusing, experience anxiety, can’t fall asleep because you can’t stop thinking, lose your things, forget what you were saying or forget to do things you were supposed to do, procrastinating, drive somewhere and don’t remember getting there, back and neck pain, feel all over the place, digestive problems, feel overwhelmed and anxious, low energy, sluggish, always rushing- never on time, try to control everything and make mental plans and lists, can’t make decisions, always on the go, things that you want aren’t materializing, can’t listen to other people when they are talking because you want to blurt out what you want to say…and the list goes on???

It sounds like a side effect list for an awful medication right? Before I started meditating I was experiencing some of the things I listed above and I know first hand, it can make life really difficult.

The good news is there is a cure folks, and the “cure” comes with so many other benefits, it is incredible! Since I started Kundalini Yoga and meditating I feel so much calmer, more focused, less stressed and have less mind chatter and am much more aware than I have ever been, and that’s just to name a few of the benefits. When you incorporate meditation into your life, it becomes as necessary as taking a shower!

Here is a great quote where Yogi Bhajan described meditation:

“Meditation is a process…At any time which is peaceful (the best is the early morning time, before the dawn), you’ll be surprised that in a couple of minutes a lot of thoughts will start coming to you—the X-rated thoughts, the ugly, angry thoughts. If you let those thoughts pass by, this is meditation. All those thoughts that can pass at that moment of your life can never enter your subconscious mind, and they will not bother you again. This procedure of cleansing the mind is called meditation…It takes about three minutes to get those kinds of thoughts. And sometimes they continue to bug you for about half an hour. But, if you physically don’t move, the mind becomes still. That is the foundation, or the beginning of the meditative mind. Once your mind starts becoming still and not having any thoughts, you will feel cozy, and that coziness cannot be described even by me. All I can tell you is that it is very comfortable, it is very cozy, and you will want to do it again and again. But in the beginning you cannot do it for a long time. Gradually, as you develop that coziness, this thought-hitting process becomes shorter and shorter.”
